Description

A desiccant dehumidifier will have a wheel coated with something like silica gel or lithium chloride that gently rotates, while a fan draws in air from the room and passes it across through the wheel. One major drawback of the compressor dehumidifiers is that it depends on the changing of temperature to extract the moisture – there needs to be a significant contrast between the temperature outside of the machine and inside. As shown in the saturation curve at the start of this, the capacity of air to absorb moisture is entirely dictated by the temperature; the lower the temperature the less it can hold, the higher it is the more it can. A desiccant dehumidifier works very differently – rather than working like a fridge, they are more similar to the little packs of silica gel that you get with new shoes.
