As for the sets... the 2008 range was far more economical in depicting these scenes. But the Ark tomb set seems surprisingly affordable at 40 euro. I thought that would be another 60-70 euro price. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom has also been criticised for its portrayal of Indian culture since the film was released. Inspired by television serials of the early twentieth century, the film presents a rather negative caricature of India and one LEGO might choose to avoid altogether. Always sorry to hear about these late-in-the game cancellations. And the reasons behind them not to mention all the other non-stated reasons.

I am hopeful, it will be for sale, sometime this year.That said, a few copies of 42113 Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey did manage to escape factories and end up at retail in 2020, and are now highly prized among collectors. If any samples of 77014 The Temple of Doom find their way into the wild, they’ll likely be even more valuable given the licence attached to them – and what would be their incredibly exclusive minifigures. Images of the sets subsequently leaked and the new range has now been officially announced, with one significant omission, as 77014 The Temple of Doom has seemingly been cancelled. While LEGO product cancellations are relatively common, this example is unusual because this set was exhibited at Nuremberg Toy Fair and images have leaked online. So…77014 has definitely been cancelled? Is there official information beyond what’s in the press release excerpt shown here? That wording is exceedingly vague, and doesn’t even indicate that there was ever a Temple of Doom set in the works to begin with, let alone what its exact fate is. Could it be getting delayed or redesigned, or is it definitely out? It’d certainly be understandable - as dearly as I love this franchise, it’s undeniably full of problematic elements, and probably nowhere more so than throughout that entire particular adventure - but it’d be good to at least have some more concrete info. Before speculating about the reasons for this cancellation, here is the statement provided by LEGO:

Even if we accept that the villains aren't supposed to be representative of Indians, and are merely an absurd cult, one can't escape the 'white saviour' narrative, whereby those Indian characters who *aren't* villainous are otherwise helpless and need rescuing by a white man (although, I disagree about the 'pigeon English' complaint; I suspect the American/English characters would sound just as bad, if not worse, were they to attempt Hindi, Pumjabi, Catonese or Mandarin etc. and it stands to reason that Chatter Lal speaks good English, since he was educated in the UK). Better late than never, here's the press release about the three forthcoming sets, and an official statement on the cancellation of the fourth: Given the other three sets – 77012 Fighter Plane Chase, 77013 Escape from the Lost Tomb and 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol – have already started appearing in stores, rumours have been swirling that 77014 The Temple of Doom has been canned altogether. The LEGO Group has now shared a statement that doesn’t directly mention the planned set, but does imply that it has indeed been cancelled. LEGO Indiana Jones The Temple of Doom (7199) is a challenging set to assemble, and it really needs a 13-adult person to assemble it. It takes four hours to assemble it and be sure everything works properly. Overall, it’s a fun toy if you are an Indy fan, but it’s very time-consuming and challenging for a younger child to do by themselves. The set is also quite expensive, but it’s worth the investment if you’re looking for a unique and fun LEGO set. Availability
Why openly speculate and encourage further speculation in the comment section, when we know literally nothing and have no means to confirm all this theorizing? That said, it’s incredibly disappointing to not have a set from The Temple of Doom, and LEGO Indiana Jones fans will sorely miss Short Round, Willie Scott, Mola Ram and more. Honestly, I am surprised by many of the comments that I just read above. Chill out! All of these CRT buzzwords like cultural appropriation, colonization, values, etc, etc… Stop being a woke snowflake. These are toys (made for kids, mostly bought and built by adults), based on mostly adult film properties, marketed to children. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this Temple of Doom set, nor the Indy theme, itself. This is a fictional work, based on a beloved IP. To say that Indy sets are somehow insensitive or inappropriate, is both hypocritical and pure hyperbole. If you don’t like it, vote with your wallet, don’t buy it! Use a small-size character to go through the crawlspace at the top of the stairs to the right of the slave cage. In the alcove above (i.e., where the escaped slave child is standing next to the lever), you'll find artifact piece #7, along with a valuable purple stud. Personally, my family (mom, uncle, grandparents) and I went to see Temple of Doom, at the theater when I was 13-14ish years old. I loved the film then and I recently watched it about a month ago, enjoying it even more at age 52. This film has amazing set pieces / scenes that should be depicted in LEGO form. But like yours, which I respect, this is just my opinion.
They probably aim at an expansion of the market in India. Thus, when in doubt, we avoid controversies and failed sales agreements.Generalized misunderstanding and inaccurate depictions of the goddess Kali as some sort of demonic figure. The dinner scene, where non-Thuggee Indians are shown enjoying disgusting "food" consisting of bugs, live eels, and, of course, chilled monkey brains. Easily the segment of the film that has aged the worse, IMO. If you're an Indiana Jones fan (and a Lego fan), you're undoubtedly interested in the sets based on the franchise. It's a little disappointing that only three are currently available: interestingly, a fourth set based on The Temple of Doom was scheduled to land at the same time, but it was canceled at the eleventh hour. It's likely that more sets may arrive over the course of the year, but the three sets we currently do have all offer something unique, appealing to different corners of the Lego market. As such, it’s one of the few Lego Indiana Jones sets still sold in the official store. Very much billed as a collectors item for adults, Temple of the Golden Idol comes complete with panels displaying quotes from the movie and the store insists it’s 18+. That’s probably because it’s a fiddly one: despite a relatively compact footprint, this is the biggest Indiana Jones set ever released.

No more, no less.I’m not saying much new, but I’m very upset about the Temple of Doom. LEGO’s current lineup covers 2/5 movies, with no rumors to indicate there will be sets for Dial of Destiny upon release in the next 3 months. These potential reasons are pure speculation, offered in the absence of any concrete explanation from the LEGO Group, and may not necessarily reflect the real motivations behind 77014 The Temple of Doom’s cancellation. The only thing that’s certain is that the set won’t be launching alongside 77012 Fighter Plane Chase, 77013 Escape from the Lost Tomb and 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol on April 1.
