However, the family that have replaced them (I can't even remember their name as I type and certainly can't even be bothered looking it up) are absolutely appalling. The woman who plays the Mother is trying to be a Janice Garvey - but it just doesn't work. She simply comes over as a pretty poisonous individual without an ounce of tolerance or understanding. The husband could easily be replaced with a cardboard cut-out; the two children have contributed nothing - apart from the little girl's ridiculous American accent earlier in the series that probably wanted to make most of us scream louder than she did singing karaoke. The son is an utter borefest. The Grandfather (Bobby Nutt?) just about cuts the mustard and is a believable Benidorm character. Kenneth DuBeq - larger than life character that, until this series, has possibly been one of the 'fans faves'. Brilliantly funny delivering cutting, insulting lines - and fits the Benidrom stereotype so convincingly. Cannot believe that more was not made from the inheritance plot from Uncle Herbert - and even sadder that a great actor such as Ken Morley, has not been used more frequently.

The plots were engaging and the format of each episode corresponding to the events of a day made the whole thing just feel relaxed no matter what happened. As Geoff's Romanian fiancee Ionela arrives in Benidorm, Noreen discovers that Geoff has told her he is a successful businessman. Kelly, who works at The Solana, has just got engaged to womanising barman Mateo, leaving Donald and Jacqueline worried. But Mateo seems more interested in Kate, and the pair soon end up having a passionate encounter, but will Martin discover his wife's betrayal? Meanwhile, Chantelle's pregnancy ends up pushing her and Janice closer together, whilst Geoff and Noreen sing a duet at the karaoke bar. Comic legend Johnny Vegas appeared in the first three series of Benidorm as Geoff Maltby aka "The Oracle", returning to reprise his role in the seventh to ninth series from 2014 to 2017.
Since leaving Benidorm, Johnny has appeared as a regular panellist on BBC quiz show QI and also on the celebrity edition of Gogglebox, along with voicing the character of Asbo in 2018 Aardman Animations film Early Man.On 5 July 2018, series creator and writer Derren Litten confirmed that series 10 would be the last after the series was axed by ITV. In 2013, Sherrie joined Benidorm in its fifth series in the role of Joyce Temple-Savage, the new manager of the Solana Hotel. Pauline's demise was a particular highlight and the actress who plays Pauline is superb. Noreen and The Oracle were scandalously underused which is a pity as they were 2 of my favourite characters from the early years of Benidorm. The filming of the sixth series took place between March and June 2013. The series started broadcasting on ITV from 2 January 2014 and finished on 13 February 2014. All main characters from series 5 returned except for Hugh Sachs, Elsie Kelly, Shelley Longworth and Michelle Butterly. Series 6 also saw the introduction of a new family, the Dykes. They consisted of Clive ( Perry Benson) Tonya ( Hannah Waddingham) Tiger ( Danny Walters) and Bianca ( Bel Powley). Martin also returned for 2 episodes for his friend's stag do. This is the only Series where Noreen Maltby is absent. Madge & Mel have their hearts set on a new business venture in Benidorm. As feelings between Geoff and Chantelle run high, Martin has one last chance to persuade Kate to re-build their relationship. Meanwhile, an old friend of Donald, Wink McAndrew, arrives at the Solana and causes trouble with his sense of humour. Later that night whilst singing " I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)", Wink is electrocuted and killed during karaoke after touching the microphone with his homemade "electric handshake" joke toy still attached to his hand. Both my Missis and myself have adored the Benidorm T.V. Show since the first episode. Like many of you, we've had laughs along the way; coupled with some pretty awful, sad times when the likes of Geoffrey Hutchings (Mel) and Kenny Ireland (Donald) passed over. These were characters that we had grown to love like friends. Brilliant actors; the ability to deliver their lines to perfection as convincing, real-world characters. May they truly Rest In Peace.One of Madge's daughters, Valda, stays at the Solana with her young Indian husband, Vikram. A scammer called Gary enters, who Brandy is already dating. It turns out Brandy is a scammer as well, and they both hatch a plan - to burgle the Solana.
