About this deal

It's got a rather floral nose with white flowers, fruit aromas of lemon and apples, and a little bit of honey. This is a classic Brut style Prosecco that is perfect for many social occasions, as a pre-dinner aperitif but can also be enjoyed with salads, light pasta dishes and seafood. Importantly it all but rendered extinct the traditional ‘colfondo’ style frizzante (less gas, more flavour) that came from the wine’s second ferment taking place in bottle, having had grape must (not sugar) added. It is the perfect accompaniment to pasta with sausage dumplings, yoghurt mousse with poppy seeds or cabbage roulades. The grapes for this sparkling wine from Italy are harvested exclusively by hand after optimal ripeness has been ensured.Golden Delicious apples, pink grapefruit and limes are clearly perceived on the nose; to these are added more delicate hints of pears and plums, together with wisteria flowers. The nose has a beautiful array of fleshy white peach, lemon curd, jasmine flower, acacia flower, chrysanthemum, and apple blossom, plus notions of yellow plums, green plums, polished steel, and sliced pear. Owned by the Dal Bianco family since 1946, they switched from being a negociant to vineyard owner in the 1960s. The finish of this sparkling wine from the Veneto wine-growing region, or more precisely from Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG, impresses with its long finish.

The Masottina Contrada Granda Brut Prosecco Superiore Conegliano Valdobbiadene then matures for several months in the bottle and is finally disgorged. The aroma then gathers into almost palpable hints of apples; clear at first but with surprising varietal notes that give the freshness of green apples and the soft sweetness of quinces. Praised by Decanter’s critics as “silky and seductive on the palate with a floral character and zesty acidity, ending in a steely finish,” this Masottina release can challenge—or even upend—your expectations of Extra Dry Prosecco.The palate has a wonderful volume of very fine bubbles, with sherbet lemon and pear fruit and a crystalline finish. This exquisite collection of terroirs undergoes secondary fermentation and maturation over the course of a month, followed by another month of aging. Golden delicious apples, pink grapefruit and limes are clearly distinguished on the nose; to these are added the more delicate hints of pears and plums, together with wisteria flowers. Made of 100% Glera, the main grape for Prosecco, 80% of the wine’s blend comes from the village of Ogliano, Masottina’s home base, where clay soils and meticulous farming help produce wines of superb structure and aromatic intensity. Thanks to its balanced fruit acidity, the Calmaggiore Prosecco Spumante Brut has a soft mouthfeel without lacking freshness.
