The boys refuse to identify their assailants to the authorities, and there are no further repercussions. I’ve already added a few more of his books to my list that I’d like to pursue next and looking forward to more horror and fun! His desire to get away from Castle Rock and out of the mill's shadow seemed to me to be my best part, and I could not just leave him to sink or swim on his own. It is a coming-of-age character-study novella set in 1960 Maine where monsters are not hiding behind bushes but instead live in the hearts of people - the setting and themes at which King excels.Another story from Different Seasons, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption is referenced in this story; Shawshank is described as one of Maine's state prisons. Chapter nineteen includes an unnerving encounter with a Wendigo, making similar sounds to those described in Pet Sematary. This is the well-known story of four kids going on a hike to find the dead body of a boy somewhere along a railway track.

When Vern tells Gordon, Chris, and Teddy about what he heard, they decide to find the body themselves, so they can report it and get their names in the paper.

Gordie Lachance and his three friends set off along the railway tracks on a quest, determined to become famous by officially finding the boy’s body. Gordie is hanging out with Chris and their other friend Teddy Duchamp in their treehouse in a vacant lot on a very hot, late-summer day. Does my comparison mean that Gordie and Chris (and by extension Mike and Will) are supposed to be lovers? Along the way, the boys trespass at the town dump and are chased by Chopper, the dump custodian Milo Pressman's dog.
