About this deal

W3T (Wet version 3)— exclusive to the Mk II, our new flagship reverb is smoother and more three-dimensional sounding than ever before. Now with adjustable pre-delay, it enhances what you play without covering it. My pedalboard has recently had a bit of an overhaul. Firstly I altered the drive section quite substantially. Then I came across a Neunaber Immerse at a price I really couldn’t say no to. I had been looking at getting a Source Audio Collider to take care of reverb and delay, effectively reducing three pedals to one. Seeing the Immerse put a spanner in the works. I had played the MK1 and enjoyed it very much. The shimmer was excellent, a real standout. I couldn’t however find one at a price I was happy to pay. I then got my hands on the GFI Specular Reverb, which is also excellent and has an outstanding shimmer mode. The Specular did all of the ambient washy reverbs that I like and I had a Boss RV-6 for the more standard plate and spring that I used all of the time. Detune – Adds a detuned double of the dry signal with reverb, now with true blend control between detune and detuned reverb. Other misc features are: Stereo in and out, Kill Dry Switch (externally accessible), Trails Switch (externally accessible). The Kill Dry is much more helpful than I anticipated. While it does have more practical uses for how you wire up your rig, I use it mainly to shape my reverb tone. The fact that this is external is brilliant. There are no favorite switches or taps and this will never plug into your PC for updates like their Expanse series.

W3T (Wet version 3) — exclusive to the Mk II, our new flagship reverb is smoother and more three-dimensional sounding than ever before. Now with adjustable pre-delay, it enhances what you play without covering it. There’s a lot to go over here but I’ll keep it simple and focus on the more advanced features. Volume (how loud the wet signal is), Depth (how long the wet signal lasts), Type (which of the above reverbs to use), and Tone or Echo Time (Brightness or darkness of the wet signal or delay time of the echo setting). And those ultra-ambient washes we were wondering about? They’re in there – but make that a million lovelorn angels. If you’ve ever listened to a cathedral organ and thought the best bit was the slow dying of those massive, dissonant overtones after the organist stopped playing, you’ll enjoy kneeling in front of your amp for a few sacred moments of this.FEATURES Mono and stereo inputs and outputs, buffered bypass, powered by 9V mains supply only (not supplied) CONTROLS Effect level, depth, tone, variable function control (depending on mode selected), eight-way mode switch: wet, hall, plate, spring, 2x shimmer, rev+echo, rev+detune; ‘kill dry’ and trails switches The +detune mode is fun too. You have to crank the level significantly to bring the effect to the fore. But once you do, the almost queasy, pitch-shifting effect becomes a cool melodic tool. The only bummer is that you cannot control the intensity of the pitch shift. As in the pedal’s previous incarnation, each mode can be tweaked through five knobs: Effect Selection, Mix, Depth, and two multi-function controls. In addition, external Kill Dry and Trails switches and stereo in/outs that can be used in mono or stereo contribute to make this stompbox also extremely flexible. Spring is not a type I used much before as they just sounded too digital on other pedals to me. However, Neunaber has made it a prominent tone for me. I’ll move into single coil territory with a tiny bit of dirt while I add a spring reverb on it to create a very vintage tone.

The Hall is what the standard norm of hall is but just so realistic it is transporting. I use this more in live environments as it is more natural. Take the tone knob up to ¾’s and you really get a special psuedo-shimmer compliment without being as overwhelming as most shimmers.Detune – Adds a detuned double of the dry signal with reverb. The blend control adjusts the amount of detune vs. detuned reverb. Spring – The distinctive twerp of a tube-driven spring reverb. Now with adjustable modulation speed, it can achieve a vibrato-spring sound. Right, let’s go through all eight sounds. ‘Wet’ is an updated version of the algorithm that powers the Neunaber Wet pedal. It’s a richly atmospheric ’verb that can be coloured with some tasteful modulation using that bottom-right function knob… and it sounds huge, especially in stereo. The level, depth and tone controls let you decide exactly how you want the reverb to blend in with your dry signal; and while things can get properly epic, the guitar itself is never swamped. Hall sounds similar but with a nicely judged pre-delay to keep the dry sound further out in front, and is equally luscious with a dash (or more than a dash) of modulation. Plate differs subtly again, adding some metallic density, and this time you can adjust the length of pre-delay. Inevitably, that’s at the expense of modulation – a minor compromise, but perhaps the first sign of the compact format’s limitations. There are numerous tones on this standard size stomp box. Wet (a signature Neunaber tone), Hall, Plate, Spring, Shimmer (a), Shimmer (b), Reverb + Echo (delay), and Reverb + Detune (chorus like). All of these are top quality tones. I originally fell in love with Neunaber when a friend loaned me the Wet Stereo V2 and a Strymon Blue Sky. I played the Strymon for about a half hour and then I plugged in the Wet and played it for the rest of the weekend. I certainly think Strymon is top quality but Neunaber is really something special… something unlike anything else I’ve ever played.
