Description

Phantom-powered JFET circuitry allows for an extra jump in quiet output volume before the mic preamp. One thing about the Cloudlifter became clear in this situation; if the mic itself is inherently noisy, the Cloudlifter is going to amplify that noise along with the desired signal. The Cloudlifter CL-1 is an inline microphone preamp that sits in the signal chain between your dynamic or ribbon microphone and your recording device to boost the output of your microphone level, without adding unnecessary hiss and noise from cranking the gain on your interface. With premium electronics, the Cloudlifter's patented discrete JFET circuitry preserves the source's natural sound while keeping the direct audio path clear of transformers, capacitors, and resistors. There's also a gain switch with two settings — standard (up to 25 dB boost, depending on the load presented by the downstream mic preamp, just like the CL-1) and more modest (up to 12 dB boost).

Thanks to its discrete JFET circuitry, the CL-1's neutral, flat sound will help to bring out the very best of the natural character of your microphones without imparting any of its own.

Because the phantom power will not pass through the CL-1 (avoiding any potential damage to vintage ribbon mics, for instance), it can only be used with microphones that do not require phantom power, so using the CL-1 to get extra gain out of a phantom-powered condenser mic is not possible without an external phantom power supply between the Cloudlifter and the mic.
