CoreELEC is a new generation media center OS built for increased functionality with world class output picture quality. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. As far as I can tell the ‘ne’ devolpment is still in the air for these, bit i can’t really imagine support ending completely.

We tested the latest PPSSPP emulation and it can handle x3 scaling on a 4K display nicely with well implemented VSYNC. If it doesn’t work, try powercycling and try again… but it should eventually boot to something familiar!

To check the thermal throttling, we ran some heavy CPU and GPU loads together on the SoC and monitored temperature. This is nice for the real time clock (RTC) as even if the board loses power it will retain certain memory/settings that you would normally expect to be lost on a board like this. ODROID-N2 has an on-board RTC component, NXP PCF8563, interfaced to the I2C bus and can use a backup battery as an alternative power source while the main power source is absent. That said, the jump in clocks on the big cores does make a real difference in performance, and I use the N2+ boards for most of my needs.

There’s quite a bit more CPU performance to be had, though the memory systems still more or less suck… nobody is going to mistake this for one of the Apple Silicon M1s.Everything is securely attached to the board and the fact that the bottom is a giant heat sink makes it quite rugged.
