Using shutter half press for AEL Lock disengages "split focusing" not an ideal solution for having the rangefinder experience available at all times. DSLRs excel for nature and landscape photography because Nikon and Canon DSLRs have more brilliant color rendition better suited for these subjects. There's no RGB histogram, but the X-E2's fantastic highlight rendition means you don't need to watch for clipping individually in each channel as you do on other cameras. And the dials – save for the aperture ring on the lens, but that is a separate subject – offer very good resistance. Great highlight rendition; the Auto Dynamic Range feature really helps hold the highlights regardless of the conditions.

Very similar to a Leica M rangefinder patch indeed, only larger, monochrome, and a bit more effective honestly. It has quickly become a very natural size and shape – that Nikon body, though that much more secure in hand, feels almost unwieldy. It works great as fill flash, although you should be careful when using it with large lenses with attached hoods. Using Fuji's X-E2, I can see a lot of inspiration from Leica, and respect for that kind of shooting experience in general.The X-E2 has a subtle but effective hand-grip at the front and a space at the rear for your thumb, with your grip helped in no small part by the textured faux-leather surface that runs around the full width of the camera. Just like the X-E1, the X-E2 also comes with a very important feature for those of us that do not have perfect vision – there is a diopter adjustment to the left of the viewfinder.

Even worse, I’d have no idea how to adjust it and were I to use, say, spot metering in some specific situation, even slight camera movement might result in a different exposure. Each corner's color shift set can be set individually for use with lenses like the 12mm Voigtländer. The way the noise looks adds an organic and imperfect texture to the images; with it being more organic and imperfect the higher you go in the ISO range. I recommend using the shutter speed dial for exposure compensation, or the AEL Lock button in the configuration as shown above. But for some reason that behavior is not translating well to my portrait-making mindset (which is what I’ve always tended to use my DSLRs for).This is good, because the X-E2 focuses so well most of the time that I forget that there is rarely something on which the X-E2 doesn't immediately grab focus.

One of the nice touches from Fuji is the inclusion of their historic films in the form of a film simulation mode, and the simulations of Provia and Velvia etc. During my second time around with the X-E2, I find it to be a different camera than my first impression.

The good news is, you do not have to rely on this built-in flash if you like working with flash – the standard hot shoe on the top of the camera will work with any speedlight or flash trigger system like PocketWizard.
