Description

Despite the idyllic setting of ice frosted trees and snow covered lawns, Shane's peaceful hideout is suddenly plunged into chaos. Shane Ryan and his ghostbusting partner, Frank Benedict, have been killing ghosts all over New England. Yet, every once in a while you get some originality, something more akin to The Shining as opposed to The Haunting of Hill House. A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square"—a 1940 song written by Manning Sherwin and Eric Maschwitz, associated in England with singer Vera Lynn or in America with the Glenn Miller Band, and a 1979 film directed by Ralph Thomas. A Victorianesque monstrosity with creeping ivy and the infamous Ward E, home of the soon-to-be-dead.

Through a series of flashbacks and flashforwards, the reader is told how the house came about and how the current resident fares. Along with the unique atmosphere of this house, Ripley brings us characters--both living and dead--that you'll come to care about as if they were real people. The story is told in flashbacks to his youth and to the present, so we see the whole picture slowly unravel! In 2008, one of the trees was said to be the "most valuable street tree in Britain" by the London Tree Officers Association, in terms of its size, health, historical significance and the number of people who live near to it. If you read the first book to the end it all works out to an interesting solution with more mystery left to solve and plenty of surprises on the horizon. Figures for relationship status do not include those aged under 16, or those family members aged 16-18 who are in full-time education.

Berkley Street and surrounding area has a larger than average concentration of residents that are degree educated or similar - 68% of the resident population. Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times. A lengthy court battle has resulted in Shane regaining his home, if only to find out what happened to his parents. Ex-marine Shane Ryan is a ghost hunter whose troubled past haunts him almost as much as the ghosts he encounters in the line of duty. Courtesy of the Veterans Administration system, the ex-marine is cut off from his private doctors and thrust into the arms of a hospital with one special nurse from hell, Nurse Ruth Williamson, who is as dead as they come.He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed.

Each death that occurs there has it's own special kind of torture, and each spirit trapped there retains their individual personalities. Areas with large single populations are often in built-up areas, with good entertainment facilities. Berkley Street is a horror novella that is told in dual timelines, Shanes childhood and the present day. At times the story was scary and there were moments I felt sorry for the poor souls trapped in the house.

This is a great haunted house story/mystery that reminded me of The Haunting of Hill House and Peter Straub's Ghost Story.

About Detective Marie, though she was the female protagonist of the story, I couldn't find much action from her. Cathy Lane, Patty Lane's "identical cousin", is said to have lived here in the theme song to The Patty Duke Show. Like most squares in British cities, it is surrounded largely by terraced houses, in this case grand townhouses. Peter Standish, a character from the play Berkeley Square written by John Balderston, about a Yankee who lives in a house on the square and is transported back to the 18th century.Harvey Robinson estate agents in St Neots are delighted to be marketing this three-bedroom semi-detached home located in the popular Eynesbury area. In this area (Berkley Street, Birmingham), only 46% of the residents were born in the United Kingdom, with 16% of the residents residing in the UK for 10 years or more. This was a haunted house story on steroids, with a compelling protagonist, a variety of spirits to get to know, and strong supporting characters. The issue that caused me the most confusion was how the ghosts would kill people in relation to their behaviour to Shane.
