Special Agent Steven Thatcher and his family are still recovering from his son's abduction six months ago during one of his cases when he lands another case involving a missing teenager.

Karen Rose is superb at what she does, she knows how to grip readers from the first page and there's plenty of twists and turns . After a horrible experience with another parent of a failing child, she wasn't enthusiastic about the possibility of another conflict. When Davies shows interest in Jenna, Stephen would like nothing more than to throw the man on the first plane back to Seattle but realises he needs Davies' insight into the killer's mind. Finding the murderer is his sole focus but it doesn't help that his teenage son, Brad, is behaving strangely. The mystery suspense of this plot centers on a serial killer who murdered four girls and got off on a technicality. She's very different from Karin Slaughter, whose books I've read most recently, but I nonetheless like her writing. As they try to carefully explore the possibility of a relationship, Steven's past causes him to misjudge Jenna's actions on several occasions.

FBI Agent Stephen Thatcher is tracking a serial killer when he's contacted by his eldest son's chemistry teacher to discuss Brad's failing grades.Since then, Stephen has struggled with balancing being a single father with being a good cop, but in the past month, his oldest son, Brad, who had always been a good kid, has suddenly become rebellious. There were some truly beautiful moments in this book and I often found myself reaching for the tissues. Still haunted by his youngests son's abduction a few years back; Things take a turn for the worst, stumping investigators when their newest victim is found dismembered, Steven's need for this killer to be punished grows knowing himself how the parents of these teenage girls must feel, he puts everything into finding the sick person behind there brutal attacks, taunting the killer back via press conference, but at what cost?

Steven Thatcher, Special Agent for the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, is investigating the disappearance of a local high school cheerleader when she is found dead. p>Read about how we’ll protect and use your data in our Privacy Notice. If Steven wants to have a future with Jenna, he must deal with the issues in his past while he races to find a serial killer whose actions are escalating. She also does plenty of volunteer work at the animal shelter and the hospice where her fiancé passed away. Stephen's priest friend, Mike was a good sounding board for Stephen's problems with both his boys and Jenna. Please don't misunderstand me - I like a good, well written romance, and am happy to read sexy novels, but this is not the author's best genre. So it’s something of a relief that the new book has different protagonists centre stage, even if they have to go through similar (though not quite as punishing) ordeals.
