Let's better appreciate what we have, consider what gives us joy, and get out there to take some photos. I really like the bright 25mm marking on the lens, making it quite easy to identify, especially in the dark. For this type of lens, I'd love to see the reviewer put this on a tripod and take a waist-up self portrait (during covid-19 or in the absence of a model) to see subject separation at people distances. The Panasonic/Leica 25mm disappointed a bit: it was good but I had expected it to be THE best of the bunch and it’s not. Do bear in mind that the bokeh balls are not exactly circular, they are out of shape, and if that bothers you, maybe this lens is not for you.

They're all built like tanks: full metal build, nice heavy feel to them, and they're all incredibly sharp. In terms of its focal range, the nearest alternatives are either Panasonic's Leica-branded 8-18mm F2. The problem is that all older reviews don't use numerical values and therefore it's impossible to compare one to the other. Camix LTD is an Introducer Appointed Representative of Pay4Later Limited, trading as Deko, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 728646). Because of its compact size, the lens handles well, even on small bodies such as the Panasonic GM and GF series, although it’s an equally good match for DSLR-style cameras such as the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7.To my surprise, the lens handles flare very well, I have not encountered any flare or ghosting issues, and that justified the move by Yongnuo not to have a hood in the box. The AF capability alone positions this lens ahead of other budget 25mm primes for Micro Four Thirds, and the AF works quite well, except for very close up shooting where it struggles a little. This is unlikely to be noticed in general photography and is hardly evident at all in branches against bright sky. And I was not the only one experiencing this, there is at least one YouTube video explaining the issue. I have no idea why I would want to lose control over the aperture or shutter speed, both are important to the image.

It's comprised of 8 elements in 7 groups, including one Ultra-High Refractive Index lens element and two aspherical elements.Construction is 8 elements in 7 groups, two of these being aspherical and one UHR (Ultra High Refractive Index). I have been exclusively using manual mode around a month since I became an enthusiast photographer, four years ago. Interesting that on forums like this, we have a tendency to argue on the details and ignore the message.

The size, length and diameter of the "Vision" Series of cine lenses is almost the same, with the position of the focus an aperture rings is the same. I had this lens twice and there was definitely a lot of difference in their performance - the second one was a lot better.Out-of-focus backgrounds are in general drawn relatively attractively, thanks in part to the lens’s circular diaphragm. Corner sharpness on the wide end when focused in the center of the frame is very good, even when shooting wide open, and results sharpen up only very slightly when focusing in the corner, indicating minimal field curvature. A scratch resistant PTFE hard anodized finish is provided on all Cooke lenses, providing a durable, hard-wearing surface to meet the most demanding environmental conditions. I suppose it can blur backgrounds better, but then again the FL is not what I would use for blurring. Panasonic has adopted its usual approach of correcting distortion in software, and in practical use you’ll have to go out of your way to get anything other than perfectly square images.

Hi BostonC, the performance score is lower due to the poor flare performance, which means any bright light sources in the frame could cause a problem, as can be seen in the image titled "Flare Test" . As far as same amount of light, the sensor sensitivity does not change the amount of light it's getting. The non distortion in combination with the large opening angle makes this lens series, ideal for high quality imaging in for example medical and life science devices where a short working distance but large field of view is required.
