Description

It’s a scene of chaos that Lieutenant Eve Dallas and partner Detective Delia Peabody enter into with the monumental task of determining who’s lying and who’s telling the truth among a sea of skilled actors. With so many witnesses, a distraught Eliza as well as her friends and staff, Eve had her work cut out. Cyril and Sylvie take her upstairs, the rest of it was already in the toy teapot in Sylvie’s granddaughter’s room, and what a good friend Eliza was to help Sylvie get rid of her ex’s things. Peabody thinks between it being 25 years and the revival, Bernstein is convinced that it’s time to avenge her daughter’s death by killing Lane, and managed to get into the party as a plus-one. Eve confirms that he was arrested and charged with parole violation (the shrine to Eliza), assaulting an officer with a deadly weapon (although it was an attempt, not successful), and resisting arrest, but he’s too batshit to plan Fitzhugh’s death and carry it out, so the investigation is active and ongoing.

All is right with the world apart from that dratted candy thief who defeats all of Eve's attempts at hiding her chocolate bars.

They bring him into Central, blubbering on the elevator, where a cop asks what his problem is, and Eve replies, "Love. Not in regards to her own marriage, but in the way that she has come to see the world and the people in it. The body wouldn’t have been found until much later but Lane didn’t realize Debra had turned on the taps to run a bath because there was too much background noise. If you subscribe to Nora’s News, you’ve already read Chapter One when I sent the newsletter out over a week ago.

Roarke tells Eve that Furrier wrote the lyrics to a song they danced to at their wedding, Only One, so they reminisce, leading to them making love to the song playing. It can be as simple as realizing that if you’re running late you need to text that person that you’ll miss dinner to understanding that you have to be present for things that are important to them and in all cases very much vice versa. She and her team uncovered the connection between Rose and Novak, but Nadine hasn’t contacted her yet; Eve advises giving her a pass for at least a day, letting her know she and her husband are not suspects – no motive, no evidence.

Offered to have sex with him if he talked Leah into firing her agent and slapped him when he told her it was her fault Leah took pills, drank too much, stuck her fingers down her throat if she ate a real meal. This was another great storyline, loved the mentions of prior cases but am seriously missing the personal story side of things that was so strong in the earlier books. Lane says she couldn’t be sure Brant would drink it, and Peabody says “sure enough” and walks through the rest of the scenario – she flushes the container in the bathroom when Dr.

One little quibble that I have is Eve’s lack of comprehension of ‘popular references’ – she comes across as being a bit thick and she is not - she is very intelligent- In one of the books she did not even know that Springsteen was referred to as ‘The Boss’ – c’mon now, gimme a feckin’ break. Yes we’re here for a crime but Eve seems to have stagnated emotionally, with even the donations to the Homicide department treated pretty dryly and matter of fact. The reveal of the killer and motive seriously caught me by surprise and that doesn’t happen often with these cases. Her parents divorced when she was nine, so it felt good to see a couple who genuinely liked each other. They learn from the regular desk clerk, who is back from the ER, that somebody in a gray maid's uniform left the hotel at 8 a. Eve gets the money wire information from her assistant, which allows her to track Debra to the West End Hotel in New York, where she has been for two weeks.
