Description

A paperback edition of a horror novel published simultaneously in hardback, which follows a mongrel as he wanders the streets of the city, tormented by a memory deep in his consciousness that he had once been a man. No missing or damaged pages, no creases or tears, no underlining or highlighting of text, and no writing in the margins.

Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Those niggling feelings that there is somehow something more in his past, desperately wanting to be remembered. He has strange flashes of memory: of another, much smaller, town surrounded by green fields; of a second mother, a human mother; of a much younger woman and a little girl in a house at the end of a narrow muddy lane. I’ve talked with, eaten with, and played with so many different species my head aches trying to remember them all. I won’t reveal what happens at the end but Fluke now is determined to complete his odyssey back to his human family even though the badger he meets tries to dissuade him from doing so. I’ve been amazed at and chuckled over the neuroses in the animal world: I’ve met a pig who thought he was a horse; a cow who stuttered; a bull who was bullied by a shrew he shared a field with; a duckling who thought he was ugly (and he was); a goat who thought he was Jesus; a woodpigeon who was afraid of flying (he preferred to walk everywhere); a toad who could croak Shakespeare sonnets (and little else); an adder who kept trying to stand up; a fox who was vegetarian; and a grouse who never stopped.

Fluke is inquisitive about their ability to communicate with each other and when he tries to talk about his previous life as a human Rumbo refuses to discuss it. His tales of the supernatural are often written with a flair to thrill the reader and have elements of horror, crime and fantasy which adds to the enjoyment factor.

Albiet sweet, it certainly doesn't have the same soppiness the American movie had, and the message is much stronger in the book. A great wee tale about a dog, Fluke, who used to be a human and his journey to understanding why he is now a dog. Somewhere in the depths of his consciousness was memory clawing its way to the surface, tormenting him, refusing to let him rest. I read this book many years ago and gave it to a friend saying if you enjoy it pass it on to a friend of yours. We have countless supernatural possibilities all the way through to the possibility of reincarnation.

We then follow Fluke on his vast adventures and find out just what fluke is and why he was a puppy, and along the way we meet some really amazing characters as well as some really nutty ones too. Fluke, hiding in the backseat of Jeff's car, comes close to killing Jeff by causing him to get into a car accident like his own.At the 22nd Saturn Awards, it earned two nominations: Best Fantasy Film and Best Performance by a Younger Actor for Pomeranc. After Bella dies of an illness, Fluke meets a street-wise dog named Rumbo who takes him to see a man named Bert who feeds them. If I spent most of the time reading your review wondering when Fluke was going to come across a bitch, that probably says more about me than about Herbert. Enraged by this and that Jeff is now dating Carol, Fluke viciously attacks him when he visits the house, and ends up getting put outside.

The next night, Brian goes missing while looking for Fluke and Carol implores Jeff to help, so Jeff drives back to their house. That’s how it all begins, but from fairly early on it’s clear that there’s something very odd about little Fluke. Fluke was also released on VHS on November 5, 1996 by MGM/UA Family Entertainment in North America (which has been edited for family viewing and was also available exclusively through Warner Home Video). Stephen King thought highly of him and there is a good podcast which covers his work, which you can listen to here. This is a great read for everyone, oh and if you think its like the movie, its not, this is 100 times better than hollywood.

There is so much love, care and personal involvement running through the very backbone of the tale that it seems to breathe with the very life of Fluke.
