Taking the concept of Mog the hero further, you could produce a piece of creative writing demonstrating other occasions on which Mog goes on to save the day. It is the perfect Christmas tale full of fun and adventure with a star-studded cast including Claire Foy as Mrs Thomas and Benedict Cumberbatch as Mr Thomas. Then, when Mr Thomas brings home an enormous tree, a startled Mog clambers onto the roof and refuses to budge. Mog even dies in the final book in the series, written 22 years after the first – despite her flaws, I hope we have that long with Ruby.

One of the nice things with The Tiger Who Came To Tea was leaning into the humour, and we’ve been able to take it even further with this. I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years.

Universal Pictures Content Group will manage the global distribution and marketing for the animated special outside of Channel 4’s rights. Claire Foy (The Crown, A Very British Scandal) plays Mrs Thomas, Benedict Cumberbatch ( Sherlock, Dr Strange) is Mr Thomas, Miriam Margolyes ( Harry Potter, The Age of Innocence) and Maggie Steed ( Paddington 2, Fisherman’s Friends) play the Aunts, Zawe Ashton ( Mr Malcolms List, Fresh Meat), is one of Mog’s neighbours, Mrs Gaynor, Charlie Higson ( The Fast Show, Ted and Ralph) plays the Jolly Uncle, comedian Gareth Berliner ( Doctor Who) is the Chestnut Seller and newcomers Amelie Law and Teddy Skelton play children Debbie and Nicky. Grandparents are likely to get as much fun out of seeing it again as the new generation of fans just learning to read! From the creator of The Tiger Who Came to Tea and Mog the Forgetful Cat comes a delightful Christmas adventure about a really remarkable cat!

Mog is discombobulated: the decorations, the tree, the noise from visiting relatives in the form of two elderly aunts and one jolly uncle.

The starry voice cast includes Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy as Mr and Mrs Thomas, but you wouldn’t know it because everyone is so unshowy. The house is full of strangers, everything is noisy – and when she sees a spiky tree walking around and talking, it’s the last straw! David Arnold wrote a wonderful score for the earlier film and has done so again for Mog’s Christmas, in fact perhaps this one’s even better, the composer sprinkling a real dollop of Christmas magic into his delightful music. We are on location at Lupus Films, where founders Camilla Deakin and Ruth Fielding, plus director Robin Shaw and the team are hard at work on Channel 4’s follow up to We’re Going On A Bear Hunt, The Snowman and The Snowdog and 2019’s The Tiger Who Came To Tea. You come with your own sense of what you think the story is going to be, then you see the animation, then you hear the music, then you hear the other actors – and the roster for Mog is absolutely sterling – then you have conversations with the other creatives in the studio.

Judith went to eleven different schools, worked in the Red Cross during the war, and won a scholarship to the Central School of Arts and Crafts in 1945. But somewhat to my surprise, I find myself now identifying more with the cat than the professor, what with being a large furry creature who is by instinct suspicious of change, but who can sometimes be convinced by treats and a suitable amount of fussing. My family suffered bereavement this December, and I’ve realised that I can barely understand loss myself.

The Mog stories are slight – nothing as exciting here as a tiger coming to tea – but the pleasure is in the character of Mog herself. This, I think, is evidence that the aunts are blood relatives of Mrs Thomas, who displayed a tenuous grasp on reality in Mog and the Baby. I'd have been really annoyed if they’d have asked someone else – it takes you back to the days when you were reading the book to your kids, so it's a lovely thing to be asked to do," says David Arnold while Don Black adds: “We both had such a great time doing The Tiger Who Came To Tea that it was an easy decision to come back for Mog – it's a dream project for a lyricist. The new Channel 4 animated short film is based on the book of the same name by Judith Kerr, and tells the story of a family cat Mog, struggling to get used to changes at Christmas. This is all great until the cloud starts to melt and suddenly Mog finds herself slaloming down the chimney and into the grate.
