The Hoover H-Upright 500 Reach is one of the cheaper upright vacuum cleaners. But does it offer value for money? If there’s one feature you can rely on Hoover to deliver, it’s neat onboard storage for all of its tools. The H-Upright 500 Plus doesn’t disappoint in this regard. Here, the motorised floor brush is attached to the base, while the other accessories clip around the body, including the 2-in-1 crevice tool and brush, the extra-long crevice tool and the attachable hose. Next up is gaps in the air flow. This hose is in pretty good condition, but over time the plastic can degrade and rub against parts of the machine and you can end up with something looking like this. Now this is a pretty extreme example, but even the smallest of holes can cause a loss of suction. The long reach of this Hoover is enough to cover a whole flight of stairs, so you won’t need to balance the vac on a step. But you will need the hose at its full stretch, which can cause some strange whistling sounds. Hoover has included onboard storage for all the accessories, so they’re easy to access mid-clean. They can also be used with the hose, but they don’t fit very well and can fall off. It’s generally a fiddly and time-consuming job to swap the attachments around, which we think is disappointing.
