If you’re looking for the latest model with a few extra bells and whistles, such as more preloaded courses, improved battery life, and better screen resolution, the Garmin S42 is a fantastic choice. However, if you’re more focused on getting a reliable golf watch with proven performance and don’t mind missing out on a few of the latest upgrades, the Garmin S40 is still a great option. The life expectancy of a Garmin GPS varies depending on the specific model and usage. On average, a Garmin GPS device can last for several years, with some users reporting up to 5 years or more. Regular software updates, proper care, and battery maintenance can help extend the life of a Garmin GPS device. In terms of comfort, the watch wasn’t the most comfortable one I’ve tried but it was a lot better than some. I don’t have the biggest wrists, so the square design of the Shot Scope V3 fits a little bit better. If you have bigger wrists, I think the round design of the S42 would be perfect. Move bar (displays on device after a period of inactivity; walk for a couple of minutes to reset it) - Yes MOVE BAR (DISPLAYS ON DEVICE AFTER A PERIOD OF INACTIVITY; WALK FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES TO RESET IT)

Ultimately, both the Garmin S40 and S42 are excellent golf watches that offer a wealth of features and solid performance. Choosing between the two largely depends on your personal preferences and budget. Since those humble beginnings, our endeavour has blossomed into a robust and trusted online retailer, representing the leading brands in the golf industry. We take immense pride in being your go-to destination for all things golf! I also like the fact that the touchscreen is snappy and responsive. Other watches I’ve tried in the past were a bit glitchy, but that wasn’t an issue here. Garmin S42: On-Course Features The best golf watch for you will depend on a variety of different factors. Firstly, it needs to be the right price for you, whether you’re after a high-end premium watch or a more conservatively-priced model. It needs to have the right features for you. If you struggle with club choice, you're better off with one of the premium models which has Garmin's 'virtual caddie' club recommendation functionality. If you'd rather not have this feature, you could save some money and opt for the Garmin Approach S12.

As mentioned above, the S42 only has one action button whereas I’m used to having three. It doesn’t make any real difference to the performance of the watch (if anything it simplifies things) but I had to stop and think a bit more about what I was doing until I got used to it.The display for maps and hazards is more basic than on other watches I've used but it's easy to read and you can access whatever information you need in a couple of seconds. The newer display style does away with a lot of the bezel for the most display in the smallest form factor. As a result the S42 offers a 1.2-inch colour touchscreen display with a 240 x 240 pixel resolution. That means great detail, which is useful when you're looking to adjust the tee on the green with your finger and every little movement counts for a yard.

For the strap, Garmin makes the best ones, in my opinion, and was super comfortable. If you’re familiar with the previous Garmin S40, the watch size is exactly the same. It’s a bit smaller than the more advanced Garmin S60. The Garmin Approach S42 is an undeniably good looking golf GPS watch. In fact, it's a great looking watch full stop. COLOUR TOUCHSCREEN - Large 1.2″ easy-to-read colour touchscreen display with a metal bezel is stylish and lightweight.Small/Medium version fits wrists with a circumference of 106-176 mm (Silver/White and Rose Gold/Light Sand versions) The Garmin S42 is worth the money if you’re looking for a golf watch with the latest features, improved screen resolution, and an extensive database of preloaded courses. The added cost compared to the S40 may be justified for golfers who want a more future-proof watch and don’t mind spending extra for the latest model. Is the Garmin S42 better than the s12? Laying up isn’t my thing though so I’m hitting driver. Hitting fairways isn’t my thing either, I’m an expert at finding trouble off the tee so that where ‘Hazards and Layups” is useful. There are trees all the way up the left and there’s a water hazard there too. By pressing the action button and scrolling down on the touchscreen I can go through all of the potential trouble and know exactly how far away they all are. The water hazard on the left is 190 yards away but the fairway slopes down towards it. With a good drive it isn’t in play but if I don’t catch it flush then anything left is going in there. You get the picture, so I’ll fast forward to the ninth green where I miss a six foot birdie putt. I enter the information required and the watch brings up the score for nine holes. Four over par, I’ve got a good round going here. It asks if I want to continue. I probably shouldn’t. The prudent move would be to enter my nine hole score and quit while the going is good. Instead I hit continue. Welcome to The Golf Shop Online, where our passion for golf drives us to provide you with an exceptional shopping experience!
