Description

In this tense, gripping novel, Nicole Trope has written a domestic psychological thriller that feels alarmingly authentic and keeps a compelling momentum from the opening scene to the deadly conclusion. Could what happened The Family Across the Street happen to any family across the street?

E L James revisits the world of Fifty Shades with a deeper and darker take on the love story that has enthralled millions of readers around the globe. The rest of the book is told primarily in the sever hours leading up to the gunshots. In this book we slowly see the building of tension from each of the different perspectives and we see how the book culminates in the gunshot. The story is told from three perspectives; Katherine, mother of five-year-old twins Sophie and George, Gladys an elderly, busybody neighbour who is the carer of her husband who has Parkinsons, and convicted felon/deliveryman, Logan. It is also told from the perspective of an unknown character who is holding Katherine and her children at gunpoint. I’m glad both books interest you, Mischenko. They definitely held my interest from start to finish. And here’s to more reads in August for both of us! 🙂

Wow, I loved this one so much…. A whole box of tissues were gone in just a few hours. It was so intense that I was sitting at the edge of my seat the whole time. I couldn’t put this one down for the life of me. No bathroom breaks at all.’ Blue Moon Blogger, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had a inkling as to what the twist was, but didn't have it fully figured out, and the author did a good job at keeping the tension high and then pulling it all together in a way that made sense at the end. When all was said and done. I found the story to be both heartbreaking and hopeful at the same time. Everybody wants to live on Hogarth Street, the pretty, tree-lined avenue with its white houses. The new family, The Wests, are a perfect fit. Katherine and John seem so in love and their gorgeous five-year-old twins race screeching around their beautiful emerald-green lawn. Every family has secrets, and on the hottest day of the year, the truth is about to come out. As a tragedy unfolds behind closed doors, the dawn chorus is split by the wail of sirens. And one by one the families who tried so hard to welcome the Wests begin to realise: Hogarth Street will never be the same again. Yeah, the first one is good, but just not what I was expecting, and I think you would be expecting the same. The Housekeeper is a great book. That one I think you’ll really enjoy!

About Me

And, from inside the home, we are told what is actually going on from Katherine, and the “monster” with the gun. Glad you got a vacation, MC. Both books are interesting but I might pass, given the load you’ve already given me! The plot keeps you guessing throughout as you are trying to piece together how the storylines are related. I liked how it all came together. The ending felt satisfying with everything resolved. There was one main twist that was interesting and connected the characters together. However, the reveal was missing that “but wait there’s more” aspect that adds layers. In the process her neighbors become prime suspects, including Emily’s mother Sabine whose coldness in the face of their family tragedy means Claudia sets her sights on her as a possible villain too. All of the characters were well developed, and fleshed out with their own personal stories, giving you additional insight into the choices that they will make.

I’ve read a few books where the entire story transpired in a number of hours or a single day. As a writer, I see that as a huge challenge. It makes for an interesting read for sure! Katherine thought today was going to be a normal day. Reeling from a fight with her husband, she gets her twins dressed for school. The doorbell rings. A man she knows all too well has a gun and is determined to have his voice heard. As the day plays out, we meet the nosey neighbor and delivery man. Both know something is wrong at Katherine's house. Omg! Omg! ... My son came in and asked me who I was yelling at?! (I was yelling at my e-reader) . I think my heart beat out of my chest … The suspense was killing me! LOL my heart is still beating crazy! … OK I have to go now, I need a big glass of wine to calm down! ’ Ana’s Attic Guest Reviewer , ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Everyone has secrets, and Rachel Holloway is no exception. She’s worked hard to keep the past where it belongs: dead and buried. And so far, she’s been very successful. The ideas were excellent, Priscilla, and had I not known what Natalie Barelli is capable of, I probably would have rated hers higher. To be fair, I think Missing Molly was one of her earliest works.

The House Across the Street cast is led by Scottish star Shirley Henderson, who’s known for everything from Trainspotting to Bridget Jones’s Diary and, of course, as the iconic and ever-melancholic Moaning Myrtle in the Harry Potter films. She plays Claudia, who has survived a battle with cancer and feels distant from her son, whom she co-parents with ex-husband Leon. Sophie is one of the twin children of Katherine and John. She is an innocent victim of the abusive environment at home. George West If there's a prevailing theme to this book it is that outward appearances can be deceiving and you never know what is happening behind closed doors. Katherine and John West and their five-year-old twins appear to be the perfect family. Until one day when their nosy neighbor, Gladys, feels that something is not right next door - John seemed to leave in a huff and the twins have not left for school at their usual time. Then a delivery driver, Logan, attempts a deliver at the West house, and Katherine refuses the delivery, giving off a disturbing vibe. When the day ends, the quiet friendly neighborhood will never be the same again. All I can say is that I hope you like it more than I did. Maybe I've grown extremely hard to please having read so much (and so much better) in this genre, but this was honestly nothing special. It was easy to put down and predictable besides. About the only thing I got wrong was the identity of the antagonist, and that reveal didn’t really matter all that much because by then, I’d stopped caring. Additionally, the unforgettable characters and their haunting journey reminded me that secrets may reside behind every closed door, and the power of empathy and vigilance can make all the difference in uncovering the truth and protecting those in need.
