From opening the box, they seem bigger than average which is great so you only need one or two to start a fire. The one thing I’d note is that they are all slightly different sizes but that isn’t really an issue as even the smaller ones are still a very decent size. No Odour or Residue: Unlike some firelighters that can leave unpleasant odours or residue on your fingers when handled, Flamers natural firelighters burn cleanly, leaving behind no residue or smell. Place a pinecone in each opening. Slowly press one pinecone into each compartment of melted wax. The wax should rise up around it, but stop pressing down before the wax overflows. [2] X Research source You’ll also need some wood shavings from the pets section, and some balls of cotton wool in either large or small sizes.

Here on our property, we have firewood logs delivered to us from our neighbours. (They are simply delivered over our boundary wall.) But firelighters that make firelighting even easier can be made by adding some wax to some of the materials mentioned above. Wax For DIY Firelighters

Place pieces of cork inside a mold. Break apart a few corks and arrange the pieces inside a paper cup. The cup should only be about half full. [3] X Research source When the mixture was cool enough to handle we pressed it firmly into our moulds lined with the paper, and tied each bundle up with the waxy string and left to set. The second method, which is even easier, is simply using an old spoon to push wood and sawdust down into the melted wax in the compartments in an old muffin tray.

For this batch we’ll be using a single 500g paraffin wax candle, and some waste from the previous batch. The side effect is that often I run out of wax before all of the sawdust trays are covered. I often make the sawdust firestarters in large batches. Cupcake trays work well for this process. Mixing the sawdust into the melted wax saucepan pot.Let it harden. Keep the tube standing upright and undisturbed for 30 minutes or so, or until the wax completely cools and sets in place.

Woodabrix are made from compressed sawdust and vegetable oils and are completely odourless and tasteless when burned. They are safe to store as they don’t contain any liquid fuels, and even if they get damp they will still work perfectly, making them ideal for camping and caravanning trips. Now you dip each cotton ball in turn – 3 times each, then press it into the silicone mould and pinch or wipe the top gently; the wax will start to solidify in your fingers as you finish the tops off, so everything important happens in this moment. Due to extreme high demand we are now increasing our network of distributors across the UK. Natural wood wool firelighters can be the perfect addition to your product range and the eco friendly nature of the product is definitely a huge selling point. This part of the process is where my caveat comes in – it took a bit over an hour to melt down all this wax, during which I couldn’t really leave the wax unattended on the stove (though I did get the chance to have a nice chat on the phone with my little sister). The time investment in making these as a standalone project probably, for me at least, make the cost / benefit of this project a bit suspect! There may be ways around this, more of which later! Most modern stoves are more efficient than most older stoves, meaning a modern quality stove will burn fuel more economically and generate more heat over a longer period. Our property is not large enough to give us all the wood we need – but this wood, from sustainably managed woodland literally feet away, is the next best thing. Whether you're an occasional or frequent fire-builder, you know that starting a fire can be a challenge. This is where firelighters come in handy- they make it easier to light your fire and keep it burning all night long.
